John Rocker stars in "The Greenskeeper": Yes, this is the former Atlanta Brave pitcher who didn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Storyline: Allen is a twenty-year-old assistant greenskeeper at the Summerisle Country Club. He has grown disenchanted with the country club life, his girlfriend and people in general. He decides to make some drastic life changes in his otherwise banal existence. Before he reforms he is talked into one last blow out for his birthday. So, he and his friends decide to sneak into the country club after hours to celebrate. Little do they know, their party will serve as a feeding frenzy for a crazed madman. A killer dressed as a golf course greenskeeper shows up to wreak havoc on the promiscuous teens. Having access to golf course tools, The Greenskeeper both frightfully and creatively disposes of our partygoers. It's up to someone to not only figure out the identity of the killer, but to stop a country club massacre. A summer blockbuster? We doubt it!

NEW GUINNESS BOOK RECORD: Three year old Nicholas Parker smashed a 7-iron all of 55 yards on the 2nd hole of the Family Golf Center's Orange Course in Mesa, Arizona. Again, life and golf just isn't fair.

MORE OF LIFE ISN'T FAIR: This story comes out of Golden Valley, Minnesota, where Jim Scheller performed one of golf's rarest feats. He scored an ace on #14 from 170 yards and less than an hour later aced again on the 17th.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

USA TODAY had a quick poll for golfers on May 10, 2002 asking them to choose between Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews to play a dream round. Although Augusta National was the majority choice of 66.26% of the voters, a surprising 33.74% chose Pebble Beach and St. Andrews. Real golfers? Our guess is not! Any real golfer knows that all you need is the dough and a tee-time to play Pebble Beach and St. Andrews. God couldn't arrange a tee-time at Augusta National for all the money in the world. Real golfers would choose the course that they have no possible way to access. Wake up, fellas...and take up another sport!

CLUB CARRYING BEAST OF BURDEN. With over 30 golf courses already established in Moore County, NC, the developers of Talamore at Pinehurst have come up with a unique way to publicize their course. Golfers can hire llamas to carry their golf clubs around the 18-hole public course and get souvenirs as well. The "Deluxe Llama Caddy Package" includes a complimentary shirt and hat, plus the Llama assistant who helps with the yardage and club selection. For the Llama Experience and other golf experiences in the Pinehurst area, call Talamore Golf and Travel at 1-800-LLAMA-92.

DUMB GOLFER TRICK. Judge Stephen Bevel was checking the scores from a local charity golf tournament when he noticed a Mr. Cliff Wolford was only five strokes off the lead. Good golf but bad decision.

Last year, Mr. Wolford had pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide. Judge Bevel suspended Mr. Wolford's four-year sentence he serve six months on work release and the remainder of the time at the county workhouse.

Bevel had Mr. Wolford hauled into court and asked him to explain how he had the audacity to play golf when he was suppose to be behind bars. Mr. Wolford explained that he was playing to improve his business relationship with a customer.

Needless to say, this explanation did very little to improve Mr. Wolford's position with the Judge and he was immediately sent to jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.

ATLANTA HAS SOME HIGH ROLLERS. Memberships to the Golf Club of  Georgia don't come cheap. $52,000 is the going rate and it appears that some have money to burn. Recently a new member joined the club paying his $52,000 membership fee. The next month he sent another $52,000 believing that this was the monthly bill.

Yes, the club returned the payment.

GOLFER PUTS HOLE IN ROBBER. Most golfers are satisfied if they can get their ball into the hole. But when three teenagers tried to rob a foursome at gunpoint the goal changed. One of the golf cart drivers had a gun (?) and pulled it from his bag, critically wounding one of the hoodlums in the face. No charges were brought against the golfer.

SOME PEOPLE HAVE TOO MUCH LUCK. Life isn't fair and neither is golf. I have played this game for 35 years and have never had a hole-in-one. I have probably had more than my share of eagles for an amateur but the big one continues to elude me. Not so with Mike Hilyer.

Mike Hilyer has had seven documented holes-in-one in the last two years. That is pretty impressive. But it gets more impressive! All these aces were on par-4 holes. All were made on different courses with yardages ranging from 304-361 yards.

Mr. Hilyer's feats were witnessed by twenty different golfers, 14 of whom were strangers. Mancil Davis, membership director of the National Hole-In-One Association said that it definitely was a record. "It defies logic. It's unexplainable."

FIFTH HOLE-IN-ONE IN TWO MONTHS! Georgette Raiche of Lorraine, Quebec, Canada, reported on February 27, 2001 that she had just aced the 9th hole (par 3) on the Pines Championship course at Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Florida. This particular hole-in-one just happened to be her 5th in the last two months.

Ms. Raiche recorded her first on December 17th with a 7-wood on the par 3, sixth hole at Palm Aire's Pines Championship Course. On January 16th, she aced the par 3, twelfth hole at the Cypress Championship Course at Palm Aire CC. And just one week later she aced the par 3, fourth hole of the Oaks Championship Course. A fourth ace was then recorded on the 17th hole, par 3, at Cypress Championship Course on January 30th. Then she hit a dry spell, going almost a month before recording her fifth ace. She holds a 9.6 USGA index and her hole-in-ones were witnessed by various golfers who attested to this feat.
